Two additional casualties have been reported in the aftermath of the catastrophic Storm Babet, as a vehicle tragically veered off a bridge in North Yorkshire. This devastating incident occurred during the afternoon hours at approximately 1:20pm near Skipton. The ill-fated occupants, a male and a female both in their seventies, were traveling in a red Vauxhall Grandland when their vehicle collided with a bridge barrier on the A629 Western Bypass, subsequently plummeting a minimum of 10 meters.
Regrettably, the male passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the female passenger was swiftly airlifted to a medical facility. Despite immediate medical attention, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. The respective families of the deceased have been duly notified.

According to a spokesperson, the collision took place at 1.20pm on the A629 Western Bypass. The vehicle involved was a dark red Vauxhall Grandland, which was traveling south on the bypass towards Keighley from the Gargrave Road roundabout.The vehicle departed from the carriageway, impacting the bridge barrier, and ultimately came to rest in close proximity to the canal on Broughton Road. Regrettably, the driver of the vehicle, an elderly gentleman hailing from West Yorkshire, was declared deceased at the location.
Similarly, the female passenger, also in her 70s, was urgently transported to the hospital in a critical state and tragically succumbed shortly thereafter. The respective next of kin have been duly notified.
