The Argentine government expressed its strong disapproval of the Israeli airstrike on a refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, resulting in the tragic loss of over 50 lives on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the foreign ministry raised concerns regarding the attack in the Jabalya camp, despite the Israeli government’s claim that it successfully targeted the top Hamas commander, Ibrahim Biari.

The Israeli military continued its assault on the camp on Wednesday, reportedly eliminating Hamas militants and demolishing a structure that functioned as a command center. The Palestinian health ministry confirmed the death of numerous individuals.

The recent surge in casualties on Tuesday has garnered global criticism, with Argentina, which houses the largest Jewish community in Latin America, also expressing its condemnation. The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in a rising number of casualties, with civilians, especially women, children, and the elderly, bearing the brunt of the violence. The Argentine foreign ministry has also expressed concern over the escalation of violence in the West Bank.

Argentina expressed its condemnation of the October 7 terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas, resulting in the tragic loss of 1,400 lives, predominantly innocent civilians, and the abduction of 240 individuals. Additionally, Argentina recognizes Israel’s inherent right to self-defense. However, the foreign ministry emphasized that no circumstances can justify the infringement upon international humanitarian law or the neglect of safeguarding civilian populations during armed conflicts, without any form of discrimination.

This declaration from the Argentine government regarding the Middle East conflict follows Bolivia’s decision to sever diplomatic relations with Israel in response to the ongoing assaults on the Gaza Strip. Deputy Foreign Minister Freddy Mamani announced during a press conference that Bolivia has opted to sever diplomatic ties with the Israeli state as a means of expressing strong disapproval and condemnation towards the ongoing Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip, which is perceived as aggressive and disproportionate.
